SAAQ Driver Assessment

Following an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the SAAQ may request that you undergo a driver assessment as stipulated in the Highway Safety Code, in order to evaluate the level of risk you might represent on the road.

It is of utmost importance that you take this assessment seriously, as the consequences of failing this evaluation are severe. For example: the fees related to re-obtaining a valid driver’s licence increase substantially; an indefinite and lengthy suspension of your licence may occur; you may be obligated to install an alcohol ignition interlock device in your vehicle; or you may be subject to other required tests and follow all recommendations put forth by the SAAQ, and all this regardless of whether or not your court case is still pending or even if you have entered a not guilty plea.
